It always amazes me as the holiday's roll around what surrounding communities do for the military. This isn't just during war time but peace time as well. What most don't understand is how very little our military makes for the job they do. Lower enlisted families make so very little money and with the holidays approaching it becomes even harder to make ends meet.
We also cannot forget about the soldiers deployed who during this time of year really need a morale boost. Watching the news and hearing our government speak negatively about the war can make a soldier feel they have no support here at home so this time of year it's especially important to let the troops know we here care.
This past week some ladies and I mailed out almost 100 boxes filled with donations from a church here in our community. Each box was stuffed with candy, toiletry items, books, magazines, chips, and even handwritten words of encouragement; just what our troops need this time of year. The local VFW Ladies Auxiliary also passed out Thanksgiving Baskets filled with everything a family would need for a fantastic Thanksgiving meal. There were so many donated that there were even some left..in which one was donated to us! The ironic part is Mike and I REALLY needed this 14 years ago whereas now God has blessed us with an income that can easily support our family of four.
The basket included a 16 lb turkey along with stuffing, cake mix, vegetables, rolls, candy, and more! It was cutely wrapped and attached was a $25.00 gift card to Safeway..wow.. The kids and I are going to donate the turkey to Panera Bread who at least here in the Springs are taking them and then the rest will go to the kids school (they are also collecting can and box items.) I am very grateful for the thought of the basket but God asks us to give to others in need, not just during the Holiday season but all year. that was so kind of you to donate the food to others in need. All of you will be rewarded in some way.
I'll be doing some here but wish I could have helped you...miss and love!!!
