Good Times...

So Mike has been home for a little over a week and we've been having a fabulous time. The kids were so excited when he picked them up from school that the next day Jack said he felt like he was dreaming.

Afghanistan weather isn't quite like Colorado weather....Mike arrived to a high of 20..and I barely made it to the airport to get him since the kids had a two hour school delay. His first day home we planned on getting a Christmas Tree and taking Bettis (his truck) to haul it back. Mike started up his truck, accidentally hit "lock" on the door and thus locked his keys inside the truck while it was warming up. Since we have no spare key he gingerly tried to open the back slider window...needless to say the whole window cracked and broke..sending us out to get the window fixed rather than a tree. I have to say Mike handled the situation quite nicely...no swearing...no throwing tools around..I was quite impressed considering it normally takes him longer to realize he's in America and not Afghanistan or Iraq:)

The next few days turned out to be bone chilling cold. We had snow, and snow, and negative temps, and more snow, and more negative temps......school delays...school cancellations...needless to say the gorgeous Colorado I've been telling him about was nowhere to be found. Today we got up into the 40's and I finally got to show Mike a bit of Colorado Springs he never got a chance to see since he left pretty soon after moving here. Snow is still on the ground but I'm pretty sure we'll fit a hike or bike ride in before he heads back this Saturday.

The kids have loved having him around (of course) and he's a great help with the kids homework in the evenings. We decided to celebrate an early Christmas with the kids since Mike will be gone by the 25th. It was a nice, relaxing morning and a big surprise to the kids. Mike slaved all day in the kitchen yesterday to make a late Thanksgiving dinner (we actually celebrated ThanksChristmas) and my best pals Felecia and Yoshi came to eat with us. It was so nice having a man serve us..and Mike was amazed at how much we can eat. What I had to explain to him is when the men are gone we don't make dinner..we eat when we want..or just snack all day, so having a meal is a fantastic treat!

We still have a few days left and will try to enjoy every bit of it. Mike goes back to a brand new job (he's taking Command..YEAH!) and the kids and I will get back on our schedules..and we'll endure another six months until he's home. We are fortunate and blessed to have this time with him as some never make it home.

Check out the pics to the left of our past few days...fun, fun, fun!
